Selling a product or service that you developed with passion and that you really believe in often seems to be the simplest thing. Why shouldn't your target audience buy such a good product or service, the one that will change their lives forever?!
The answers to this question can be different:
- The quality is not as good as you think;
- People don't know about your product;
- Your seller does not sell it well enough;
- You, as a seller, do not sell it well enough.
The first two reasons are quite easy to understand and fix. You only need some funds to make your product better and to launch advertising campaigns. But let's talk about the last two situations.
What does it mean that a salesperson doesn't sell well enough?
- They or you do not interact with potential customers, being afraid to go out of the comfort zone, to propose a product or service or to adapt it to the consumer's requirements.
- They or you do not know how to sell.
Selling is, in fact, a profession that must be learned and practiced. A successful salesperson can’t be born with absolutely natural sales techniques. Sometimes, after a lot of practice, experienced salespeople really don't even realize they're applying them. But that takes some time.
Not knowing sales techniques and not applying them means teaching English, speaking French.
- The seller does not have negotiation skills. Why not solve selling problems with the same scheme.
- One does not have the necessary communication skills to help them have control in the discussion process. But, having control does not mean monopolizing the discussion.
How to turn such disadvantages into advantages?
By investing in the seller’s (or your) abilities to interact with customers, by learning how to tell them just enough, listen to their small talk and so on. If a seller knows exactly how much to say and how to say it, the customers will truly believe they need that product.
The key is to study customer ethics, sales techniques, to read more about the most common mistakes and to never, ever overwhelm customers with your presence, or they might run away from your store and never come back, even online!
